Artist's Statement: |
| | Painting has become second nature to me. It records my thoughts and dreams. My issues are worked out on paper or canvas. In effect, my life and history are portrayed visually: my waking and my sleeping hours.
Experiences seem to shine through the work; sometimes at a subliminal level. Painting to me is like a life lived instead of just conceived and thought about.
The paint: the dripping, flowing paint, is a visceral pleasure that feeds me. The colours fill my eyes and mind, extending to my heart and spirit. Images float in me in a conscious, unconscious and spiritual way. I have found the vehicle for self-expression.
I feel the fresh air and freedom of an artist’s life. Artmaking is the integration of mind, body and spirit; the culmination and embodiment of memory and thought. Out of the cracks of my brokenness, paint oozes and heals - an ointment anointing me to truly live. |
