Contemplation & Soul Graffiti Book Study

"Graffiti, as a method of deconstruction, reveals a primitive hunger for renewal that makes space for what is emerging... what it means to be truly spiritual in the times and places where we live."

Calling seekers, believers, writers and readers to take a fresh look at Christian life and practice - any extra/ordinary person who would consider becoming an apprentice of Jesus Christ. Let's join together on Wednesday evenings to do a little Contemplation, journaling, graffiti/soul doodling etc. then engage in lively Conversation spurred on by a close reading of Spiritual Formation Director Mark Scandrette's exciting book Soul Graffiti - a postmodern example of travelling The Way

Long for some transformation for 2012?

Artist's Statement:

Painting has become second nature to me. It records my thoughts and dreams. My issues are worked out on paper or canvas. In effect, my life and history are portrayed visually: my waking and my sleeping hours.

Experiences seem to shine through the work; sometimes at a subliminal level. Painting to me is like a life lived instead of just conceived and thought about. The paint: the dripping, flowing paint, is a visceral pleasure that feeds me. The colours fill my eyes and mind, extending to my heart and spirit. Images float in me in a conscious, unconscious and spiritual way.

I have found the vehicle for self-expression. I feel the fresh air and freedom of an artist's life. Artmaking is the integration of mind, body and spirit; the culmination and embodiment of memory and thought. Out of the cracks of my brokenness, paint oozes and heals - an ointment anointing me to truly live.

The workshops will take the participant through practices and exercises designed to bring out the stories of our own lives. Some surprising words and images may arise on the page as we take the time to reflect and express in an everyday way. No experience necessary. All materials provided.
