Biography:
In my former life I was an computer science, mathematics and art teacher in Surrey, Coquitlam, North Delta and Vancouver. Now I paint and draw for my own personal satisfaction. I enjoy lifedrawing, sketching, and photography and will paint almost anything that strikes my fancy. Some of my subjects come from my strolls around the inlet into Rocky Point park, others from lifedrawing sessions or photos of something that "spoke to me". Art is never perfect, unlike the solution to a mathematical equation! There is always a new challenge to meet and something new to see in a different light.
Associations:
I am President of Suite 'E' Life Drawing, a member of the Port Moody Art Association, and have achieved AFCA status in the Federation of Canadian Artists.
Professional Organizations:
In January 2010 I was admitted to the Federation of Canadian Artists as an active Member. In March 2014 I achieved Associate Status (AFCA) with the Federation of Canadian Artists.
Shows:
The portrait "Eye Insight" won an Award of Excellence at the Figurative Show in Federation Gallery on Granville Island. I exhibited 5 portraits at the Suite 'E' show at the Port Moody Arts Centre this year. The portraits showed members of the Port Moody community and it was to help celebrate Port Moody's Centennial year. I exhibited 3 paintings at this years Port Moody Art Association Show. I have participated in numerous juried shows at the Federation Gallery on Granville Island in Vancouver. "Dahlia Backs are Beautiful Too!" was in the Annual International Representational Show.
Exhibits:
I have exhibited with at the Federation Gallery on Granville Island, the Port Moody Art Association, and Suite 'E' Life Drawing Group.
Instruction and Workshops:
In 2009 I attended my second painting workshop with Mike Svob in White Rock and had a great time. I also attended a five day color theory workshop with "The Color Institute" through Maiwa, and a fabric workshop called "Invented Fabric" in which I had a fun time doing various treatments to fabric surfaces. In April 2010 I attended a color workshop called "Colour on the Couch" at the Fibre in the Forest conference. This year, 2014, I attended a 3 day felting workshop and 4 lectures at the Maiwa symposium. I find many similarities in design and colour problems between painting and fabric art.

I took an oil painting workshop at PMAC on the portrait, trying to learn some of the basics, but still paint primarily in acrylics. I now find a lot of information on the internet and from publications, and enjoy working through problems at my own pace.
