Programs
Our programs are currently limited to residents of St. James Community Service Society housing. We are happy to answer any questions about our society and programs - look for contact information below at the end of this page.
History
St. James Community Service Society offers aid to those who are in need and especially to those who are bypassed by the normal channels of support. St. James does its best work where the need is greatest, in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
One of the many programs offered is Multi-Tiered housing for adults with mental illness. Each tier reflects the varying needs and abilities of specific clients and ideally leads to enhanced independence and movement to the next tier.
- Victory House offers a comprehensive program for the extremely "hard to house" mentally ill.
- Santiago Lodge is home to residents who are able to care for themselves with a minimum of supervision.
- Cecelia House contains bachelor suites for residents who no longer require supervision.
Jan Strehler and Jean Thompson instruct 7 or 8 residents from these homes in a weekly watercolour class. Their work has improved steadily and they are very excited to be part of the Eastside Culture Crawl again.
